I.A.W.A.(UK) Drug Control Officer, Gary Ell is pleased to report that the recent test conducted at the Southern Cup in Eastbourne, returned a negative result!

Bionic Branch Barbell – Records Session

Bionic Branch Barbell Club – Had some fun whilst lifting off for the Bob Smith All-Round Postal League last month and held a Records Session.

One of the highlights was Michael Perry’s attempt at the Pullover & Press with Wrestlers Bridge (B42).

A lift that we don’t see contested often, so here’s a video! – Well done Michael!

Referee News….

IAWA(UK) Vice President, Paul Barette had the pleasure of presenting Joshua Charles Davidson and Sam Bonar with their full status referee sign-off certificates at the end of the Southern Cup on 9th February.


Josh & Sam, having passed their exams 12 months ago have been gaining practical experience at events throughout the year.


The technical committee agreed at the Southern Cup, that both were now competent and are now certificated for a 2 year period.

Leg 1 Results – The Bob Smith All-Round Postal League

Here are Leg 1 results of the Bob Smith IAWA(UK) All-Round Postal League.


A great start to the year with 44 lifters and 15 teams. Welcoming new team The Brighton Barbellends, and new lifters from Club 3B and MetamorFIT.


Congratulations to the top 3 teams of Leg 1 – Club 3B1, Powerhouse Phoenix1 & MetamorFIT1.
The top 3 lifters were Michael Perry, Mark Elsdon & Chloe Brennan.

The Lifters & Officials of the 2025 British Grip Championships

A great day at the British Grip Championship at Preston today. Big thanks to Mark Haydock for promoting the event, and to all those who helped make it a success.

Great to see a nice mix of juniors seniors and masters and men women boys and girls all taking part.

When the four lifts were completed, the overall best lifter award ( the Karen Gardner Memorial shield) went to Josh Davidson , with Jamie Oates second and Emily Haydock third.

Chloe and Jamie will now embark on their minimum 12 month probation period gaining practical experience.
